Street art at La Villette: a walk or an exhibition?

At La Villette, a “street art” search may mean a temporary exhibition or an outdoor walk. As of 4 October 2026, BEYOND THE STREETS has ended: La Villette lists 27 May to 23 August 2026. For a walk, choose an area around the canals and check current access.

01

Is La Villette’s street-art exhibition still open?

BEYOND THE STREETS is no longer open at the checked date above. The organiser marks it as finished. A shared poster or a rising search can remain visible after closing: always open the event listing before planning your visit.

For another exhibition, check its exact name, venue, dates and booking arrangements. One area may host several events; one season’s programme is not a ticket for the next. Our outdoor suggestion below is independent of exhibition tickets.

02

Where should you begin an outdoor discovery?

Seine-Saint-Denis Tourism describes Street Art Avenue along the Saint-Denis canal, from La Villette towards Aubervilliers and Saint-Denis. The project began in summer 2016. Choose an open first section and turning point; our suggestion is a short outing rather than trying to follow the entire canal.

Distinguish the Ourcq canal from the Saint-Denis canal when planning your start. Check the quay name and your position on a map before walking. Works, crossings and available paths determine your actual route; an artistic project’s name does not guarantee continuous access to every work.

03

What connects a mural with its surroundings?

Start with the support: wall, pillar, façade or street furniture. Then study the distance between the image and pedestrian movement. Some compositions reveal themselves from further away; others reward a pause before a detail. Consider what changes when you place the image within the whole setting.

Choose one detail to describe to someone rather than collecting a long list of names. A colour, gesture or motif can become your visiting thread. To identify the artist, look for a signature and a checkable reference. Projects and works can change; an old photograph is not evidence of their current condition.

04

How should you continue after the walk?

Keep La Villette as a separate outing from Le Marais and the 13th arrondissement. To compare two forms of urban art, plan Boulevard Paris 13 for another day: you will have more time to study and compare supports instead of making several journeys.

Street Whisperer can accompany your discovery of nearby places and questions arising on site. Check important facts with the cited references; the app does not replace La Villette’s programme or access notices. Plan a connection for new stories.

Your questions, answered.

Does the outdoor walk include exhibition entry?

No. Public pedestrian routes and indoor events have different arrangements. Check each event with its organiser.
