Museumnacht Amsterdam: a walk in Amsterdam

For a heritage pause separate from the evening, walk along the Amstel: Waterlooplein, the H’ART Museum area, then Magere Brug. Choose your museums in the programme. This outdoor suggestion accompanies Museumnacht Amsterdam. The official programme remains the reference for routes and open buildings.

01

Which walking route should you choose?

Allow roughly 60 to 90 minutes to walk and observe these landmarks, excluding visits and transport. This is editorial guidance, to adjust to your pace.

The stops are editorial suggestions from public spaces. Adapt them to closures, weather and your mobility. Indoor visits and waiting time add to the walk.

02

What stands before you

Magere Brug is the white drawbridge over the Amstel. From the riverbank, look at its horizontal shape before crossing.

03

Its story

A wider bridge replaced an older narrow crossing in 1871. Its name recalls the first crossing's limited width.

04

Look at this

Compare the white structure with the water and waterside façades. Keep passages clear; stopping on the bank is more comfortable than on the bridge.

05

What most people never learn

The view over the Amstel changes with the bank you choose. A walk between museums can become an exercise in observing bridges, independent of indoor activities.
